About us
At NICE, we believe everyone, regardless of social status or race, has a role to play in our democracy. We work to empower minority and underserved communities across the country so that they can have a say in the running of our government. We do so by promoting civic participation among minority communities, advocating for policies that protect and elevate minority groups, and providing affordable education and legal services.
Our story
NICE was born of a need to increase public participation and trust in the government among minority and underserved communities. Public participation contributes to the legitimacy of the exercise of government power and brings valuable information to government decisions. Also, decisions made through public participation and community-based processes are more durable and last longer.
At NICE, we work with communities throughout the United States and advocate locally and nationally for community-based decision-making and community- based governance. We provide underserved communities with the tools and information they need to effectively participate in the running of the government and become leaders on the issues that matter to them.
